Does PayPal Support Cryptocurrency Transactions?

You can transfer cryptocurrencies not just between PayPal personal accounts but also to other digital wallets like Venmo. It’s available in major crypto-wallets like Magic and Metamask and supports the most popular cryptos, such as Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, and Bitcoin Cash. Plus, recently, the company released its own currency, PYUSD, which is also available in PayPal accounts.

With PayPal, you can buy crypto, keep and sell it, or transfer it to and from verified personal PayPal accounts allowed in the United States and its territories. You can pay for purchases through your account at stores that accept PayPal crypto payments, like Gyft, Overstock, and Microsoft stores.

Does PayPal Support Cryptocurrency Transactions?

Cryptocurrency transmission timings

Usually, it takes two hours to make transfers between accounts on the blockchain. However, this time might shift due to the type of cryptocurrency used and network activity. If someone who accepts PayPal payment hasn’t yet set up to get the cryptocurrency in their PayPal Balance account, they’ll have 30 days to set it up and accept your transfer.

Weekly cryptocurrency transaction maximum

The highest possible weekly digital money transmission sum is $25,000 in the United States. You can move funds to other PayPal accounts externally or mix outside and internal transfers, but this total maximum still stands.

Crypto transfers are not returnable

Transactions cannot be stopped or undone once they have started because cryptocurrency protocols are irrevocable. So, if you send crypto to the wrong person, you have to contact them and ask for a return. If you don’t know who owns the address, there’s nothing you can do, so be careful with transactions. Yet, when 30 days pass, and the receiver hasn’t claimed any cryptocurrency sent to a different PayPal account, it automatically returns to the sender.

Network fee

When you send cryptocurrency outside of PayPal, you will pay a network charge, which is also called a blockchain network fee. It’s not a PayPal fee, and its cost may vary based on network overload. As you add digital currencies to the sum that you wish to transfer, PayPal reveals the amount you’ll pay in-network fees at the time of the transaction.

Are There Any Fees Associated with Using PayPal?

Are There Any Fees Associated with Using PayPal?

Even though you can create and use a PayPal account for free, you can still be charged some fees.

  1. Withdrawal fees. If you’re withdrawing money to a US bank account, you may be charged from $0 to $3.50 depending on the market/region.
  2. Sellers’ fees. Stores that allow paying with PayPal are charged 2.99% of the transaction amount and a $0.49 fee, and as a consumer, you’re not charged any fees.
  3. Currency conversion fees. There is a set conversion fee of 4% that you must pay when shopping between two currencies. Plus, PayPal has the right to charge additional sums for conversion costs of about 3%.
  4. US interpersonal transfers. Sending money from your PayPal balance or connected bank account is free.
  5. Transfers to Canada or Europe. There is a 1.99 EUR cost when sending money to somebody with a PayPal account in Canada or Europe.
  6. Other international transfers. International personal and purchase payments incur cross-border fees, which must be paid by either the sender or the recipient, but not both. It is usually up to the sender to decide who will cover the fee.
